Expedition #0: About SelfExpedition In this episode, you will learn what SelfExpedition is, what its goals are and what brought me to start it. Hint: Ultimately SelfExpedition is about you. And the main values and the mindset behind it all is utter wonder about being a self in this world, excitement about humans, and epistemic humility: a deep understanding that any model is limited and that we need a multitude of models to approximate any phenomenon in the real world. The self is an individual person as the object of his or her own reflective consciousness. This reference is necessarily subjective, thus self is a reference by a subject to the same subject. An expedition refers to an exploration, journey, or voyage, undertaken by an individual or a group of people especially for discovery and scientific research. Equipped with with tools and instruments for observation, measurement, documentation and interpretation.
SelfExpedition offers you tools and robust equipment to transform your journey with and as your self into an expedition. Put the hands on both sides of your head. You will spend your entire life inside this skull and as your mind and self. With yourself. Looking through the same eyes. This is deeply beautiful, significant and wonderful. If it does not feel that way to you right now, take a moment to consider what work your brain has to do to give you the false sense of knowing both the mysteriously uncertain world around you and yourself to the extent of boredom. This workings of the brain is in itself is marvellous and awe-inspiring.
You will spend your entire life as yourself and as your self. You will never have the option to break up and therefore you have to make it work. Therelationship to yourself is the most important relationship in your life. Create yourself, take care of yourself, understand yourself, love your self.
Do you know the Myers Briggs type test and theory? Have you ever done an (very likely fake) IQ test online? Do you maybe even read up on your zodiac sign predictions? Many of these ideas are far behind other tools that are already out there, but not widely spread yet.
We are here to help. We think there is a big gap between the knowledge various disciplines have to offer and the public and private understanding of ourselves and the world. Selfexpedition is about bringing you tools, concepts, ideas, thought experiments, tests and models to learn about yourself. From psychology, philosophy, many other disciplines and leading global thought leaders. And all of this in an easily digestible and visual format.
While this might sound deeply self-absorbed we are convinced that having a better understanding and relationship to our self ultimately will help to create better relationships to others and the world. It enables to better know and communicate who you are and what you want and have tools that you can also apply to human beings outside of your own.
